Dyslexia, confidence, reading, interests, oh my!

It’s hard to summarize the thousands of thoughts that cloud the mind of parents whose children have a learning disability. Will he ever get his confidence back? Will he be able to graduate high school? College? Will he find a good job? Will he ever meet his own potential? Will the world see what I see? How can he explore and find his passion if he doesn’t like to read?

Ok, those were just a few. I get bright, bold, often ambitious ideas to help guide and advance them, but these ideas often fall short. I feel even more inadequate when it doesn’t turn out the way I expected or if I simply don’t follow through.

So, here’s this week’s idea. Give both boys, ages 11 and 9, their own Pinterest account and create a blog so they can make Pins of their own. The blog will serve as the necessary link so that Pins can be created. The boys can also use their screen time in a healthier way as they explore their interests, organize their pins, READ the details of the projects they pin, and even create Pins as they try projects, crafts, and adventures of their own. Brilliant! Right? We’ll see. It might not last a week, but we just keep pressing on.
